24 Hour Vigil Beyond the Time Difference: China's Manufacturing Through the Eyes of an American CEO

This article is compiled based on an exclusive interview with Mr. Tan, drawing from his personal experiences. Only the logic of expression has been optimized, and no key information has been fictionalized.

I am Tan, the CEO of an aluminum material production and processing enterprise in the Americas. Having run a business for many years, I have always been looking for partners who can address industry pain points and achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement. The cooperation with GEP ECOTECH is the result of my deep recognition of the cost-effectiveness and technical strength of "Made in China", and it has also made me truly appreciate the service and quality of "Made in China" that exceed expectations.

At the end of 2021, we decided to launch a project with tens of millions of investment, with the core goal of processing waste aluminum packaging materials, bulk materials, and aluminum scrap cakes generated during the factory production process. We have extremely stringent requirements for the core equipment of this project—it must have high production capacity, high sorting accuracy, and sufficient operational stability.

To be honest, initially, I did not set my sights on China. Instead, I prioritized investigating leading enterprises in the Americas and Europe. However, local enterprises suffer from severe market monopolies, with equipment prices at an extreme premium. While European enterprises boast mature technology, their processes are cumbersome and redundant, driving up service costs. What was even more unacceptable to me was that, when I proposed simplifying the process, they refused to make adjustments, citing "standard processes are just like this". As a business operator, I am unwilling to pay for unnecessary redundant costs, so I began to turn my attention to Chinese manufacturing, which has gained a foothold in the international market through its excellent quality.

A chance online consultation brought me into contact with GEP ECOTECH. Initially, I approached it with a "just to know" attitude, considering that sourcing equipment from China, half a world away, involved logistics, installation, after-sales service... Any issues in any of these links could directly affect the progress of the entire project.

However, the professionalism, sense of responsibility, and high efficiency demonstrated by the GEP ECOTECH team quickly dispelled my concerns.

In the early stages of the project, we needed to carry out civil engineering planning and equipment layout. Due to the time difference, our working hours often coincided with late nights or weekends in China. However, the sales team at GEP ECOTECH never shirked their responsibilities. They always responded promptly to messages and quickly coordinated with engineers to address technical issues, ensuring seamless response 24/7. On one occasion, when we were discussing equipment connection issues in our existing factory, they immediately worked overnight and sent three versions of layout diagrams, each annotated with detailed optimization suggestions. To meet our different discharge requirements, they innovatively designed a movable discharge belt with slide rails, which can be directly adapted to container loading and flexibly adjusted for stacking methods, thus solving our future logistics planning challenges in advance.

What truly made me decide to cooperate with GEP ECOTECH is their precise insight and deep understanding of our process pain points.

During the aluminum scrap crushing process, temperature rise can cause materials to adhere to the cutting tools, leading to equipment overload, current alarms, and frequent downtime. Each cleanup takes 2-3 hours, resulting in annual losses exceeding one million dollars. This has been our most troublesome issue for a long time. The GEP ECOTECH team proactively proposed a targeted solution during the communication: "Considering the material characteristics of aluminum, we can configure a dedicated water mist cooling system to automatically control temperature rise, thereby preventing the problem of tool adhesion from the root." They are not simply selling equipment, but helping us think about how to solve the problem.

In 2023, the equipment was successfully installed, debugged, and put into production, with actual results far exceeding our expectations. The lifespan of the equipment and cutting tools was significantly extended, and the overall operation was stable and efficient. The production capacity was increased by more than 20% compared to the initial design value. Most importantly, the application of the water mist cooling system has almost achieved zero downtime for the production line, which, for us, represents tangible cost savings and production capacity transformation.

From our first communication at the end of 2021, to the successful implementation of the project in 2023, and to the stable operation today, GEP ECOTECH has earned our complete trust through their professional actions day after day. This is also the underlying logic behind my firm choice of Made in China: cost-effectiveness is the stepping stone, technical strength is the solid support, and the service spirit and sincere attitude that exceed the contract are the cornerstone for building long-term trust.
